How reliable are your cars?

The Nissan Sentras are have basically stock engines, so just like the street cars they are very reliable. We do everything we can to insure the cars do not have problems. If they do we usually have at least one spare car onhand that we can use as a back-up.

The FFR Cobra Coupe is also very reliabe as it uses a large number of standard components from the Fox Mustang platform. This particular coupe utilizes a Ford Racing 302 crate motor with a Holley carburator.

If either of these types of cars fails to complete the rental duration for resons attributable to Rent-a-Racer.net we will refund a pro-rated amount of your rental fees. See the Rental Agreements for each vehicle for details.

What if I have a mechanical failure?

We have 4 Nissan Sentras and a FFR Coupe in our rental fleet. If you miss all or part of your session due to a mechanical failure attributatle to Rent-a-Racecar.net. We will first try to provide you with an operational car from the remainder of the fleet. If we are unable to do so will refund all or a pro-rated portion of your rental fee as outlined in the Rental Agreement.

What if I damage the car?

You are responsible for any damage caused to the car while you are driving. In the event that something does happen we outline all of the costs for labor and parts up front (see the Rental Agreement) for details. With purchase of the required liability policy for $75 your responsibility for damages is limited to the first $1500. Any damages over and above the $1500 are covered by the liability policy. You are also responsible for any damages you may cause to the facility. This is not included in your damage policy and is to be handled solely between you and the organizing facility.

What clothes should I bring/wear and what safety gear is required?

Minimally you are REQUIRED to wear closed toed shoes, long pants, a long sleeved cotton shirt. We provide the rest! You are also required to use a SA2000 or newer helmet. We provide them as part of the VIR Experience. We also have helmets for rent for Car Only Rentals and other people requiring them for $20/day.

What about rain or bad weather?

We usually run rain or shine, as long as it is safe. So bring rain gear, that way it won't rain. During the 2005 track season at VIR Club only 3 sessions were lost to rain. If it is not safe we won't drive! We will do everything possible to reshedule your track time and rental.

Where can we drive the cars?

Primarily at Virginia International Raceway outside of Danville, Virginia during one of our VIR Club track days or other track days hosted at VIR by a club you may be affiliated with.

See VIR's Website for details or contact us through our Contact Us page for other track availablility.

What is the cost for track time at a VIR Club track day as a guest?

Track time costs $150 per day (plus the car rental) for four 20-30 minute track sessions in the Touring Lights group. You can also get some ride alongs in the FFR Coupe to "Learn the Line". You can also opt for one session for $50 (plus the "get your feet wet" rental fees)in either the Formula Cars or the FFR Coupe. We coordinate everything with the VIR Club Member Services Coordinator to make this as simple as possible.

What is the Touring Lights group like at VIR Club?

Touring Lights is a non-passing lead follow session with a pace car. The pace car driver will always be a seasoned race driver from VIR. This is a good way to learn the line around VIR. These sessions start out at "highway speeds" and progressively get faster through the day. You realy get to safely learn the line around VIR.

Do I need a special license?

Not VIR Experience. All you need is a valid drivers license. If you are renting a Car Only Rental you are responsible for checking license requirements for other club/race events. If there is a question make sure you have this cleared with the club or sanctioning body prior to renting. We are not responsible for these issues and do not issue refunds if you do not have the required credentials for a club/race event you have rented for.

What about the damages and fees?

The damage costs are outlined in each of the Rental Agreements. The libility for the costs of damages are limited to $1500 per incident with the payment of the required $75 damage liability policy. When you purchase this liability policy you are only required to pay the first $1500 of the damages. The remaining damages are covered by the liability policy. At the end of the rental period we will do an inspection of the car noting any damage that may have occured. These costs will be adjusted based on the liability policy and you will only be responsible for the first $1500. Please read the Rental Agreements for all of the details.

What about lodging at VIR?

We camp in our motorhome at VIR! You are welcomed to pitch a tent, bring a trailer or RV and camp at the track. If you prefer to stay in a hotel The Lodge@VIR and trackside hospitality suites (with pull down bed) are onsite and offer excellent accommodations for the price. There are also other hotels within a few miles drive of the track. See VIR's website for details about The Lodge and surrounding hotels.

What about food, showers, etc. while at the track?

VIR is truly a World Class track. It offers facilities that rival any other track anywhere. If it isn't available at VIR it probably ins't available at any track anywhere. There are several restroom and shower facilities onsite, a race shop, and you can join us for dinner and beverages at our onsite Clubhouse and Resaraunt. See VIR's website for details.

Can non-drivers get on the track?

Yes. Both Bob and Dwayne have sedans with passenger seats. Passengers must be at least 16 years old and wear closed toed shoes, natural fiber long sleeve shirts and helmets (Rental helmets are available for $20/day). Ride alongs are encouraged for drivers and non-drivers alike. There aren't many rides that can compare to a full speed lap at VIR.

I am not sure if I am ready for a full day rental, how can I try it out?

You can schedule a "Get Your Feet Wet" special for $200 and get a ride along with one of us (if available, full day students take precedent). If you aren't ready for that contact us about visiting during one of the track days to check it out first hand.

I don't have a helmet, where can I get one?

We provide one for the VIR Experience participants. If you are a racer or other participant we have new approved Impact Racing Full Face Helmets available for rent for $20/day. All we ask for is your driver's license for a deposit.

I've never been in a racecar and am afraid I will embarass myself, how can you help me?

Our sessions are designed to be a learning experience. We give "chalk talks" to discuss getting around track and operating the cars. You also get instruction during VIRClub's mandatory safety/driver's meeting. You can also ride along with us prior to your session to get a feel for the track and experience the line at speed. If you just remember to control yourself and use common sense you do great and have a truly enjoyable experience.
